“The CVRs and FDRs from American 11 and United 175 were not found.”
- 9/11 Commission Report
Observations:
- Rather indicates he has knowledge of a video clip in custody of CBS News in which Giuliani “holds up” what he claims is a “flight recorder box” from the WTC wreckage.
- Rather introduces this clip, but immediately a BBC-style “technical problem” prevents its being aired.
- Giuliani would not make such an announcement to the national media casually–much less “hold up” the object in question–without confirmation that what had been found was indeed a “flight recorder box” and not the remains of some other electronic appliance from the debris.
This episode supports claims by FDNY personnel and an NTSB “insider” that the WTC “black boxes” were in fact found, and suggests the actual moment the blackout curtain descends on this matter in the corporate media.

Like his brief echo of the George Washington Bridge “truck full of explosives”, this appears to be another telling, quickly muted, never-corrected departure from the official narrative by Rather, giving further context to his ominous comments about the “flaming necklace” of “lack of patriotism” inflicted upon free-thinking journalists after 9/11.
So exactly what was or was not recorded in those ”black boxes” that so violates the official legend they had to be made to disappear?

CVR & FDR data was not deemed to be in the publics interest by the Bush administration. The CVR data would have proven beyond reasonable doubt the connection between the attack and the American administration. The connections between the Bush family and the Saudis is well established and the actions of the Administration to protect and remove from availability for investigation the Bin Laden family from the country are very well known.
Not sure how the FDRs and CVRs would implicate the “Saudis” or the “Bin Laden family”, but it certainly would be a problem if the part numbers of those boxes did not match the aircraft officially involved, or if they recorded an event like this:

Michael, do you know if anybody has ever tried to get that video clip out of CBS, or at least asked them to show it?
An associate did attempt to get information from CBS News regarding the original Rather footage, any correction/follow-up and the implied Giuliani footage via email exchange with the CBS News archivist.
The archivist insisted that “it would be impossible to find what you want” and claimed “We’ve done a search of our archive from the information supplied…and have been unable to find anything”.
So it would seem CBS News is “unable” even to provide time and context for the Rather clip, much less for the alleged Giuliani video that is its subject.
Hadn’t heard this.
“Giuliani would not make such an announcement to the national media casually”
Sure he would, Giuliani would do anything he thinks he can get away with.
